Digne, Gomes & Semedo miss out on World Cup

Barca Nepal. Barcelona trio Lucas Digne, Andre Gomes and Nelson Semedo have all been left out of their respective countries’ squads for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Lucas Hernandez, Benjamin Mendy and Djibril Sidibe have all been selected ahead of Digne, who has been an ever-present in France squads throughout his time at Barça.

However, coach Didier Deschamps said that the left-back’s lack of minutes at Barça has counted against him.

Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembele have been included, though, as has Barça transfer target Antoine Griezmann.
Meanwhile, Gomes and Semedo have both been left out of Portugal’s squad for the summer.

Gomes was a key part of the side that won the European Championships but coach Fernando Santos has left him out on the basis of his club form for Barcelona this season.

“It hurts not to be able to include all the players who were with us in the European Championship,” said Santos.

“They have all contributed to writing a brilliant chapter in the history of Portuguese football, but I had to make choices that for me make a better puzzle.”
