Barca Nepal, March 2. It doesn’t happen often, but Lionel Messi achieved something that he’d never done before in Barcelona’s La Liga clash at Las Palmas on Thursday .
The Argentinean ace fired home a free-kick in the first half of the clash in Gran Canaria, giving the visitors the lead as they sought to extend their lead at the top of the La Liga table.
But a penalty from former West Ham forward Jonathan Calleri levelled the scores early in the second half, and despite constant pressure from the visitors in the second period – which included the introduction of Philippe Coutinho from the bench – they couldn’t force a winner.
That meant that Messi couldn’t be entirely happy with his night’s work, but he did at least do something he’d never done before on the evening.
Because his goal at the Estadio Gran Canaria meant that he has now scored a La Liga goal at 36 different stadiums, which is obviously a record.
He’d never scored a goal before at the home of the side from the Canary Islands, who are in their third season back in La Liga having previously been away for 13 years.
